Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know Before the Pour.

We believe a well-informed client is a happy client. Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often during consultations on the Cape.

The Foundations: Compatibility & Preparation

1. Can you install epoxy over my existing flooring?

  • Concrete: Absolutely, provided the slab is structurally sound.
  • Wood & Tile: Yes. These surfaces require specialized preparation and a Flex-Epoxy primer to accommodate the natural movement and expansion of the substrate.
  • Countertops: We can pour directly over laminate, Formica, and wood, which allows you to achieve a luxury stone look without the cost or mess of demolition.

2. What if my concrete is currently damaged or stained?

Imperfections like cracks, chips, spalling, and oil stains are addressed during our Day 1 Prep process. We utilize industrial diamond grinding to open the pores of the concrete and remove contaminants, followed by high-strength fillers to ensure a perfectly smooth, level foundation for your finish.

3. How does your professional system differ from a DIY kit?

While "big-box" DIY kits are available, they lack the high-solids chemistry and mechanical bonding capabilities of professional-grade resin. 90% of a floor’s success is in the preparation; we use industrial equipment to create a profile that DIY tools simply cannot achieve, ensuring your floor never peels or flakes.

The Process: What to Expect

4. How long does the installation take?

A typical installation takes 2–4 days. While "one-day" companies exist, we prioritize the Covalent Bond—a chemical link that requires a specific multi-day curing window. This ensures maximum durability and a superior finish that won't fail prematurely.

5. Will there be a strong odor during installation?

We use 100% Solids, Low-VOC products. While you may notice a slight "technical" scent during the mixing phase, it is non-toxic and typically dissipates within 24 hours. For interior projects, we use high-velocity air movers to maintain proper ventilation.

6. Will my floor yellow or fade over time?

Standard epoxies can "amber" when exposed to UV light. To prevent this, we utilize UV-stable topcoats, such as Polyaspartics. Think of this as "sunblock" for your floor—it preserves the vibrant colors and clarity of your design for years to come.

Aftercare: Walking, Driving, and Safety

7. How soon can I use my new floor?

  • Foot Traffic: Generally safe to walk on after 24 hours.
  • Furniture & Heavy Objects: We recommend waiting 48 to 72 hours.
  • Vehicle Traffic: Please wait 72 hours (and up to 7 days for specific metallic systems) before parking vehicles or heavy machinery to ensure the resin has reached full Shore D hardness.

8. Is epoxy flooring slippery?

Because the surface is seamless and non-porous, it can be slippery when wet. Safety is our priority, so we offer Anti-Slip Aggregates or specialized textured topcoats. These add necessary traction without dulling the artistic beauty of the floor.

Investment: Long-Term Maintenance

9. How do I keep my floor looking new?

Maintenance is effortless. Regularly sweep or vacuum to remove abrasive grit. For mopping, use a mild detergent mixed with water. Avoid bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners like vinegar, as these can etch the surface and dull the gloss over time.

10. What is the expected lifespan of a WP Resin floor?

In residential settings like garages or basements, our systems are designed to last 10–20+ years. In high-traffic commercial environments, they typically perform for 7–10 years before a simple "Renew" topcoat is recommended to restore the original luster.
